A Fantastic And Rare Antique Italian Baldachin/Crown, Gilded Wood, 1700's

This is a fantastic and extremely rare antique Italian crown that was once used as a decorative baldachin for a statue in order to emphasise its significance. In the past such canopies would act as interior adornments and could be seen placed above devotional sculptures, paintings, mirrors, furniture etc. This one, dating from the early 18th century is a wonderful example made of hand carved wood that was gilded. Through the passage of time a mesmerising timeworn patina has been created that in my opinion only brings forth its true beauty and splendour today. Today, these kind of treasures could be displayed on walls or on a flat surface in order to create unique interior displays. It is exactly as I discovered it recently in Tuscany.
