A Precious And Rare Antique Spanish Santo, Carved And Painted Wood, 1800's

This is a precious and rare antique Spanish santo that dates from the 19th century. Discovered recently in the South of France this gorgeous santo is hand carved from wood [except the glass eyes] and positioned on a pediment. The figure is most certainly a representation of Mary, with her head slightly tilted forward. This is also seen on the remarkable Sterling silver flaming heart with a sword -around her neck - that she was discovered with. The heart bears the initial "M". Her hands are attached to the body with strong wires so that they could be placed in a desired position. The santo is in lovely antique condition and exactly as I discovered it, with minor signs of ageing which in my opinion only brings forth its true beauty and splendour today.
