A Wonderful Antique French Decorative Branch, Antique Award, 1800's

In France, since the 19th century such branches were given as awards for great accomplishments in arts, sports, academic achievments and civil service. This is one of those stunning treasures that dates from the 1800's. It is a highly decorative item made of gilded metal. Through the passage of time a mesmerising timeworn patina of exceptional beauty has been created. Such items are wonderful when displayed on flat surfaces such as books or placed on a wall or a bookshelf for example. Also in combination with other decorative items  one can create a fascinating interior display. The branch measures about 31.5 x 9 x 3 cm or approximately 12.4 x 3.5 x 1.1 inches and it is in lovely antique condition with minor signs of ageing that in my opinion only brings forward its true charm and splendour today.
