An Outstanding Antique French Gilded Wood Carving, Acanthus, Early 1700's

This is an outstanding antique French wood carving that dates from the early 18th century or older. In my opinion this is a sculptural masterpiece of exceptional beauty that survived astonishingly more than 300 years. Its presence is impressive and the craftsmanship that went into its creation is a true mastery. This is a large hand carved and gilded acanthus branch that is complex in its intricate pattern of lusciously curved foliage. Its opulent form would make a spellbinding interior display when shown on its own or in combination with other decorative items if desired. It could be also hung on a wall. The carving measures about 53 x 22 x 12 cm or approximately 20.8 x 8.8 x 4.9 inches and it is in lovely antique condition considering its age with signs of ageing that in my opinion only brings forward its true beauty and splendour today.
